Turrialba

Turrialba is a region of Costa Rica that lies between the Central Valley of San Jose and Cartago and the Caribbean areas of Limon and Siquirres. It is generally mountainous with beautiful green areas, prime rainforest and rivers apt for whitewater rafting. The Turrialba Volcano has a perfect cone-shape and has recently become mildly active with sporadic plumes being seing from it's summit. There are many things to do in Turrialba including coffee tours, banana tours, sugar cane tours and a variety of different levels of lodging is available.

Hacienda Tayutic

Hacienda Tayutic is located in the Pavones distric of the Turrialba county. The Hacienda lays on the top of the south-west hills sorrounding the Turrialba valley, at 2500 ft above sea level, and enjoys a Caribbean climate with steady temperatures of around 65-75ºF the year round.

Hacienda Tayutic offers luxury lodging on a working Hacienda - it also has it\'s own private 19th Century chapel perfect for weddings.
 
The Hacienda was founded in 1963 and grows coffee, organic macadamias and sugar cane, which are turned into delicious gourmet finished products. You can learn its processes through a one day tour between delightful tropical-english gardens and a marvelous view of the Turrialba valley.
 
The name TAYUTIC comes from indigenous cabecar dialect that was spoken by the former inhabitants of the region and means "platanillo" in Spanish, name of a red flower common in the area.
